Hi! I’m Molly Lamar. I was born and raised in sunny Gainesville, Florida. Growing up in Gainesville, it was always a dream and a goal to attend the University of Florida. With an acceptance rate of 39%, I knew that throughout school I had to challenge myself and keep my nose in the books in order to get accepted into the #7 public university in the nation. From attending private school to being in the Cambridge Program in high school, I learned early on that life is competitive. When it came time to apply to college, I took a leap of faith and only applied to UF. Some might say that was risky, but I was confident. On Valentine’s Day 2009, I found out that I was accepted. I majored in Marketing and earned minors in Mass Communications and Family, Youth, and Community Sciences. However, growing up, I always loved kids. I was the neighborhood babysitter, I taught my dolls every day after school, and I volunteered at summer camps while in high school. The summer after graduating with my bachelor’s degree I started a one-year intensive education Master’s program. I taught first grade during the day with my mentor teacher and went to school at night. After graduating in 2014, I moved to Orlando to begin my teaching career.
I’ve always taken the road less traveled in life and this move was no different. It was the hardest year of my life. I was two hours away from home in a quiet apartment and I didn’t know anyone. Well, in order to grow in life, you have to get out of your comfort zone, right? I signed up for several half marathons, I learned to cook basic recipes, I did yoga at Lake Eola every Sunday after church, I tried new restaurants, and the list goes on. I also kept a list of places I wanted to visit in the notes section on my iPhone (my Dad always jokes about how many “notes” I have on my phone) in hopes that I would find a friend to adventure with. At my school’s end of the year party, I met Jermaine. He taught 3rd grade that year, but in a different building. We had minimal interactions throughout the school year: a few conversations in the copy room and he asked me for a pair of scissors one day after school (LOL). That summer, we went to Gatorland, we kayaked in the rain at the Brevard Zoo, we kayaked with manatees in Merritt Island, we took nature hikes, and we got lost in Wekiwa Springs State Park on our bikes. Through these adventures, he captivated me, he challenged me, and he became my best friend. Three years later, he proposed to me and we said I DO on June 22, 2019. #LamarAdventures We are loving newlywed life with our two cats, Ella and Oliver, who we absolutely adore.
So, here I am taking a leap of faith and creating a blog (something that has been on my heart for a long time). I love people, asking questions, telling stories (every single detail), being creative, love stories, and laughing. I hope this space leaves you better than when you first started reading.
In a world where you can be anything, be kind.
